MISSION AND PURPOSE

The mission and purpose International Music and Entertainment Association’s IMEA Awards is to honor and recognize the best individuals and organizations in independent music and theatre, internationally.

NOMINATION ELIGIBILITY

MEMBERSHIP STATUS

To become an “Official Nominee,” individuals and organizations that submit material for consideration must be, or become, an active member of the International Music and Entertainment Association, Inc. (“IMEA”) prior to the submission deadline. Additionally, membership must be up to date on to the date of the awards ceremony.

Amendment: June 2017 – Submission Deadline

DEFINITION OF ACTIVE MEMBER

Active Member describes an individual or organization that has completed a membership application of the International Music and Entertainment Association and has paid necessary member dues.

ELIGIBILTY PERIOD

The twelve-month eligibility period for the International Music and Entertainment Association Awards is from January 1st through December 31st the year prior to any awards presentation. (EXAMPLE: The eligibility period for the 2019 IMEA Awards, to be held in 2019, is from January 1, 2018 through December 31, 2018.)

Amendment: June 2017 – 5th Annual IMEA Awards eligibility period shall be July 16, 2016 through December 31, 2017.

MUSIC CATEGORIES

SONG OF THE YEAR

To be eligible for this category, the recording release date must be during the twelve-month eligibility period.

ALBUM OF THE YEAR

To be eligible for this category, the record release date must be during the twelve-month eligibility period.

MUSIC VIDEO OF THE YEAR

To be eligible for this category, the video release date must be during the twelve-month eligibility period.

DEFINITION OF RELEASE DATE

Release date describes the date of which a project was released to the general public.

THEATRE CATEGORIES

Opening night for a submitted production must be during the twelve-month eligibility period.

DEFINITION OF A OPENING NIGHT

Opening night describes the date of which a production has officially opened to a public audience. Opening night does not include previews or dress rehearsals.

SUBMISSIONS

For the 6th Annual IMEA Awards, submissions are accepted from March 16, 2019 through May 17, 2019.

SUBMISSION REVIEWAL

The Nominating Committee shall begin reviewing submission within 30 days prior to the submission deadline. Due to the high volume of submissions, this ensures enough time for the Nominating Committee to review all submissions.

NOMINATION ANNOUNCEMENT

The Nomination Announcement will be held on a date determined by the Nominating Committee.

CEREMONY

The Executive Producer is responsible for coordinating a date and location for the award ceremony.

JUDGING AND REVIEWAL PROCESS

NOMINATING COMMITTEE

The Nominating Committee is compromised of no less than ten and no more than thirty individuals. The President of the International Music and Entertainment Association selects members of this committee. Members of the Nominating Committee must remain anonymous to ensure that decisions are not biased or influenced. Members of this committee are highly respected and highly qualified individuals in the entertainment and performing arts industries. The majority of the members on the Nominating Committee also continue to serve on the Voting Committee.

RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE NOMINATING COMMITTEE

The Nominating Committee is responsible for reviewing each and every submission received. The Nominating Committee members then submit nomination recommendations and determine the finalized list of Official Nominees. This committee will verify each submissions eligibility and compliance with the entry requirements and qualification provided within this document.

VOTING COMMITTEE

The Voting Committee is compromised of no less than ten and no more than thirty individuals. The President of the International Music and Entertainment Association selects members of this committee. Members of the Voting Committee must remain anonymous to ensure that decisions are not influenced. Members of this committee are highly respected and highly qualified individuals in the entertainment and performing arts industries. The majority of the members of the Voting Committee also serve on the Nominating Committee.

RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE VOTING COMMITTEE

The Voting Committee is responsible for reviewing each and every Official Nominee’s submission. The Voting Committee then casts a secure and private vote that influence two-fifths of the final win for Music categories and four- fifths of the final win for Theatre and New Works categories.

FAN VOTING

The International Music and Entertainment Association opens up an online fan-voting platform that allows Official Nominees to encourage their fans to vote for them. Fan Voting is only opened for the Music and Theatre categories. Fan Voting only influences one-fifth of the final win.

INDUSTRY VOTING

Industry Voting is described as voting by active members of the International Music and Entertainment Association. For definition of active members, please see Article I Section 1.01 Clause A. Industry Voting influences two-fifths of the final win for Music categories.

CONFIDENTIALITY OF SUBMISSION

The International Music and Entertainment Association prides itself in the confidentiality of all individuals and organizations that submit material for the IMEA Awards. All Entry Material and submissions are kept confidential and only accessible by members of the above committees.

CATEGORIES

Below is a list of categories and criteria for the Music division. Each genre may feature all or selected categories from the below list.

ARTIST OF THE YEAR

This award is either present as a single category or as a male / female category depending upon the genre. This category is judged on overall talent, live performance, star quality, branding, commercial potential, and professionalism.

ALBUM OF THE YEAR

This category is judged on overall production, song selection, design, and commercial potential.

ENTERTAINER OF THE YEAR

This category is judged on live performance, stage presence, talent, and star quality.

INTERNET RADIO SHOW OF THE YEAR

This award is presented to an overall outstanding Internet radio show that has a primary focus of promoting independent music.

GROUP OF THE YEAR

This award is presented to a band, group, or duo. This category is judged on overall talent, live performance, star quality, branding, commercial potential, and professionalism.

MANAGEMENT COMPANY OF THE YEAR

This award is presented to an overall outstanding individual or company whose focus is the management of musicians, artists, or groups. This category is judged on overall professionalism.

MUSIC VIDEO OF THE YEAR

This category is judged on overall production, song, theme, originality, and creativity.

RECORD LABEL OF THE YEAR

This category is presented to a company whose focus is to promote and distribute independent music. The category is judged on overall professionalism of staff, services offered, and artist roster.

SONG OF THE YEAR

This category is judged on overall production, melody, and song structure.

SONGWRITER OF THE YEAR

This award is presented to an individual who recognizes as a songwriter. This category is judged on overall originality of individual’s songwriting catalog.

DIVISION TWO: THEATRE

SUB-DIVISIONS: Musical and Play

CATEGORIES

Below is a list of categories and criteria for the Theatre division. Each sub- division may feature all or selected categories from the below list.

OUTSTANDING PRODUCTION

This category is judged on the entire production and ties together all other categories and reflects the production’s overall combined efforts, sync and dynamic. Presented as Outstanding Musical and Outstanding Play.

OUTSTANDING ACTING (LEADING AND SUPPORTING ACTOR/ACTRESS)

These categories are judged on entire performance of actor/actress. The committee looks for confidence, strong acting skills, movement, and understanding of character. Additionally, for Musical sub-division, vocal performance and dance skills are judged. Presented as Outstanding Leading Actor in a Musical, Outstanding Leading Actor in a Play, Outstanding Leading Actress in a Musical, Outstanding Leading Actress in a Play, Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Musical, Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Play, Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Musical, and Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Play.

OUTSTANDING DIRECTION

This category is judged on overall creative direction of a production. This category is based on casting, blocking, collaboration, etc. Presented as Outstanding Direction (or Director) of a Musical and Outstanding Direction (or Director) of a Play.

OUTSTANDING CHOREOGRAPHY

This category is judged on overall song staging and movement, polished dancers, syncing of music, originality of choreography, and pattern usage. Presented only in the Musical sub-division.

OUTSTANDING LIGHTING DESIGN

This category is judged on overall creativity of the designer, utilization of effective color palette, reinforcement of theme, mood, time period, and location of the production. Presented as Outstanding Lighting Design of a Musical and Outstanding Lighting Design of a Play.

OUTSTANDING SOUND DESIGN

This category is judged on the overall creativity of the designer, insurance of excellent audible experience for audience, comfortable sound levels, etc. Presented as Outstanding Sound Design of a Musical and Outstanding Sound Design of a Play.

OUTSTANDING SCENIC DESIGN

This category is judged on the overall creativity of the designer, contribution to the atmosphere of the production, effective uses of props and furniture, and reinforcement of theme, mood, time period, and location of the production. Presented as Outstanding Scenic Design of a Musical and Outstanding Scenic Design of a Play.

DIVISION THREE: NEW WORKS

OUTSTANDING ORIGINAL PLAY

This category is judged on overall originality of the work, effective use of dialogue, character development, commercial potential, and structure.

OUTSTANDING ORIGINAL BOOK OF A MUSICAL

This category is judged on overall originality of the work, effective use of lyrics to move story, effective use of dialogue, character development, commercial potential, and structure.

OUTSTANDING ORIGINAL SCORE OF A MUSICAL

This category is judged on overall composition, originality of the work, song structure, score, commercial potential, and effective use of lyrics.

NOTIFICATION OF NOMINATION AND WIN

Official Nominees will be notified within twenty-four hours of the nomination announcement. Winners will be announced during the award show ceremony. If a winner is not present, they will be notified within two business days following the ceremony. All nominees and winners will be listed on IMEAAwards.com and www.IMEAOnline.com as they become available.

AWARD SHOW CEREMONY

The Executive Producer is responsible for coordinating a date and location for the award ceremony. The award ceremony must be held prior to December 15th. Traditionally, the ceremony has been held in October or November. Tickets for the event will go on sale within sixty days prior to the event.

ATTENDANCE

We invite nominees to attend the award show ceremony to celebrate their success, network, and support the International Music and Entertainment Association’s endeavors. However, nominees do not have to be present to win.

GENERAL CONDITIONS

By submitting Entry Material, each individual and organization represents, warrants and agrees individually, and on behalf of the organization as a whole that the individual or organization:

Meets the eligibility requirements set forth in these Official Rules and that they have all necessary rights, licenses or permission to submit all Entry Material.

Grant IMEA and/or IMEA’s promotional affiliate(s) irrevocable worldwide rights, licenses and permissions necessary for broadcast of any photographic image or footage of individual, members of organization, or band members, in print media, on website, television, or radio.

Agree to adhere to general rules of decency and conduct.

Will not hold IMEA responsible for late, damaged, misdirected, postage due, stolen, lost, garbled or misappropriated entries, faulty file uploads accompanying online entries, telephone, computer, hardware, software, programming or network malfunction or other technical failures or errors, or the failure of properly process entries, communication disruption or other forces beyond the reasonable control of IMEA, including but not limited to disruption related to internet traffic, bug, virus, or non-authorized intervention or damage caused by access to the website, whether human, mechanical or electronic.

Understand and agrees that contestant owns the copyright for each work submitted, and material is contestant’s original work except for cover material.

Agree to release indemnify and hold harmless IMEA and promotion affiliates, their parents, promotional partners, subsidiaries, advertising and promotion agencies and their respective directors, officers, employees, representatives, volunteers and agents from any and all liability for any claim, injury, loss, or damage of any kind to any person, including, without limitation, disability and death, any contractual, intellectual or other proprietary rights, and any damage or loss to property, arising in whole or in part, directly or indirectly from acceptance, possession, use or misuse of a prize or participation in any IMEA related activity.
